In Which I Refrain From Being A Whiny Brat

This morning I was planning on writing a long-winded post complaining about how I haven't been on an actual vacation in years (years! from the girl that used to hop on planes every other day to jet off somewhere, years is a very long time), and how I'm going to really make it my goal to have a plane ticket to Denver in hand by the end of June.

But then I stopped myself from writing any further because I realized something: this is my last week of school!

And then I will be on vacation for months and months, with no children to worry about other than my godson, and he only knows about four words, none of which are "Axe", "Body", or "Spray". And yes, I will work a few days a week at the gym with the godawful hours they handed me- low girl on the totem pole and all that- but really, how hard is it to smile and hand out towels? But other than that I am going to be spending ample time at the beach, hiking, and relaxing. My cousin's wife is coming to stay with us for the month of July (is there such a thing as a cousin-in-law?) while she starts her PhD program, which means built-in Filippino chef and party person! Chris and I are also spending a weekend in Burlington, VT, and another in Maine. And of course, with my family being my family, there are a number of parties and cookouts already planned out.

So I guess I can't really complain about not having a "real" vacation in a while, even though I really kind of wanted to I thought it might be unfair and sad to all you people that have jobs in which you have to stare wistfully out the window at the clear summer sun from your office window. If you're lucky enough to have a window, that is.

I have no window. Sniff! I also have no vacation plans apart from a weekend in Milwaukee and a weekend in Delaware. At least I have summer Fridays to keep me going!

Yeah, no window here, either. And no vacation in sight. And it has been YEARS. Sigh.

You could, of course, go ahead and whine if you wanted. It's your blog, after all. But how gracious of you to take the rest of us into consideration. :)

I've got no window here in this warehouse office. All I have is my hour of lunch outside. But thankfully, I've finally scheduled myself a vacation, and planning it is really the only thing that will get me through the next two weeks.

I have a window (a patio door with a tiny little decorative iron patio, actually), and I can stare wistfully out the window overlooking a river that runs through town, but I am still jealous of your many summer plans. You're a lady of leisure, NPW! Sigh. Lucky you.

Why is it that no one takes vacation anymore? The last time I took a week off of work I stayed home and wrote a paper.

WTF?

I'm moving to Europe.

I went 10 years without a vacation.
What was I thinking?

I too have a pretty cake summer ahead of me- I'll have a margarita in your honor.

I'm sorry to all of you with no windows. As much as it gets like a greenhouse in my library with it's banks of floor to ceiling windows I do enjoy having a view. And an occasional breeze.

As for all you who don't take your vacation time- WHY?! Seriously, how do you live with no vacation time? I mean, I know mine are built in to the kids vacations and all, but they are the breaks that keep me going. Long live the summer vacation!

Very good point.....but there is something to be said for climbing on a plane and jetting off somewhere!

Oh, loved that last paragraph. I do have a window, thanks, not that I look at it because there's outside stuff out there and I try to avoid the outside stuff. I feel like I need another vacation, even though I just got back from one a month ago. I don't think it is ever enough.
