Surprise!
Normally the Christopher reads this blog a day late, as he doesn't have access to the internets at work (shudder!). But he does read it and so until now I have not been able to write about the amazing surprise party I've been planning for his 30th birthday for the last two months. And you all know how much that had to kill me! Because I hate keeping secrets... but I think I did a pretty good job of hiding this little soiree from his ever-present eyes. Anyway, the party is tomorrow, everything is in motion and ready to go, and being the consummate party planner (read: three years of event planning under my belt, yo) I believe that I have thought of everything.
Music? Check.
Food? Check.
Seating? Check.
Beverages? Check.
Invites? Check.
Alerting the landlord of an impending bash? Check.
Birthday cake? Check.
I've got a few last minute things to take care of- the room of shoes needs to be straightened so that people don't scream in horror if they happen to stumble in there. There are a few party people that have not yet confirmed their attendance status, I will call and pester them. I need to test out the central air to make sure we won't be broiling in a sweat bath all night long. A few sweeps of the vacuum, throw the dirty laundry in the washer, and voila. A perfect party house.
We haven't had a party at our place yet and I'm a little concerned about space, but I think once I give people enough champagne and beer people won't mind sitting on the floor. Or in the bathtub. And hey, if things get too cramped we can always just head outside to the sidewalk and join the W.T. block party.
Anyway, wish me luck in my first real party-throwing endeavor since the college days when all you needed for a kick-ass time was a handle of tequila and some Doritos. Over and out, party peeps.

Have fun & try not to wake up on the floor in front of the bathroom like I did at the last party I threw.
At least it was carpeted...
12:25 PM
Have fun! While you are celebrating the big 3-0, we will be celebrating the big 0-3!
12:28 PM
How fun! Happy birthday to Christopher and I hope you have a great time. I'm sure the party will be a total smash (hopefully not the smashing of the door by party crashers who decide to use your roommate's picture of her sister as a convenient way to cut up coke lines. Not like that ever happened to me) and look forward to details!

Wait, so there won't be a handle of tequila at this party? Then I'm not coming!!
Hope it's a great party and a big surprise.

I'm so bummed I'm going to miss the bash!
(And do you really want to know why I had a St. Patty's Day party? Not because of my location and the Southie parade...no, no, no. It's b/c that's the one holiday - esp. in Southie - it seems as adults we can still get away with cheap beer, doritos, and jello shots! Ha ha!)
Have a great time and Happy birthday to Christopher!

OMG - COOKIEPUSS!
My brother-in-law and I once drove 40 miles for a Fudgie the Whale for our birthdays. Then we left it on the back of the truck and he died a horrible death in the middle of the street. Fortunately, the store had another.
We still laugh about it.
Also: How responsible are you that you contacted the landlord?
Also also: I have had people end up in the bathtub. And not in a good way. We've had some legendary parties.
2:54 PM
My, that's awfully brave and confident of you, just hoping he's not going to read early this time!
I'm sure the party will be excellent. Sounds like you've got everything under control.
Also, I read thoroughly all the Wikipedia info on Cookie Puss and Fudgie the Whale, and I cannot understand why I have no recollection of any of it. All those pop culture references listed in the entry, and yet, have I ever seen these things before?? If I have, it somehow entirely escapes me. Weird.

Hey, tequila and doritos STILL sounds like a pretty good time to me!

I DON'T WANNA MISS IT! But of course I have to. Have lots of fun and make sure you document the scene (and post pictures).
I was laughing uncontrollably today about something that happened to Chris probably 4 years ago, and it was that very inappropriate someone's-hurt-but-I'm-laughing-anyway laughter. To preface, I was editing text on subconjunctival hemorrhage today, and it reminded me of something Chris did. If I recall correctly, he was hanging with us and drank a wee bit too much, and he ended up throwing up the following day, giving him a wicked broken blood vessel in one eye. He came into work the following Monday and looked awful. That day, he went home at lunch to grab something, and he reached into his closet and a roll of a bunch of posters fell out and hit him smack in the other eye. When he came back to work, he had a black eye, so both eyes were messed up, and it totally looked like passive Chris had been in a fight.
Wait, that's funny, right? Right?
XOXO,
Franny

Good luck, good luck!
And hey. Where's my invite?
5:30 PM
Ha. Yeah, my parties used to be tequila, beer, boxed wine, one bag of crisps and about 60 people I knew, some not really at all.
They are now $200 worth of food, bottled wine and about 6 friends.
I am getting ooooold.
Would you take a couple of leetle pictures for me?
Happy Birthday Christopher!
6:35 PM
I am frightened of the cookiepuss cake and might have to let it fall off the roof of our car on the way to the hood.
5:08 AM
I can't wait for pics and commentary!
7:48 AM
Good luck, happy birthday to the boy, and have tons of fun!
8:19 AM
Happy birthday to the C-monster!
:)

Personally the bathtub is my favorite place to sit when I'm drinking. Comfy plus if you happen to pee on yourself or spill your beer you can just blame it on a dodgy faucet.
8:06 PM
I hope it was wonderful!!!!!
